ARTS UNDER THE DOME

First-class artists performing in a one-of-a-kind location.
Arts Under The Dome is the long-running concert series offered by First United Methodist Church in downtown Gulfport. Our mission is to present first-class artists that people here may not otherwise have the opportunity to see, and to present them for a reasonable ticket price in a beautiful setting – under the one-hundred-year-old stained glass dome in the First United Methodist Church sanctuary.

Previously of the Grammy-winning Turtle Island Quartet, Kittel demonstrated similar scope as a composer-arranger-collaborator for such diverse artists as My Morning Jacket, Yo-Yo Ma & the Silk Road Ensemble, and Bela Fleck & Abigail Washburn.

For the last few years, he has been diligently building his own repertoire of music for a wholly original new group. Kittel & Co. includes mandolin phenom Josh Pinkham, genre-bending guitarist Quinn Bachand, transcendent bassist Ethan Jodziewicz, and hammer-dulcimer wizard Simon Chrisman.

Shotgun Jazz Band

Shotgun Jazz Band plays Traditional New Orleans Jazz in the spirit of the great Revivalists.

Emphasizing old New Orleans-style ensemble playing, a stomping rhythm section, and a genuine love of the hot, bluesy, no-frills melodies that once poured forth from New Orleans’ dance halls.

Marla Dixon’s uncommon and exuberant spirit, which comes through in both her trumpet playing and spectacular singing, is so forceful that she immediately dominates any context she appears in, not unlike Kid Thomas Valentine.
